Twitter in turbulence as PM Imran Khan skirts efforts to oust him

The events from the National Assembly on Sunday have provoked a myriad of reactions from people on social media.

After Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri dismissed the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan under Article 5 of the Constitution, many celebrated the PM’s “victory”, while others expressed disapproval for his actions, and some dubbed him a “traitor” for violating the Constitution.

With the motion dismissed, President Dr Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on the PM’s advice under Article 58. PM Imran Khan will continue to perform his duties until a caretaker Prime Minister is appointed under Article 224.

Amidst the rising political tensions, the embattled premier had promised a “surprise” on the day the no-trust vote was to be held.

He used the last trick up his sleeve in the session of the lower house, leaving opposition members, and the nation stunned.

Users congratulated the PM for standing up against US oppression.

Some Twitter users criticised PM Imran Khan for taking an “unconstitutional” way out when the no-trust motion would have yielded the same results.

Many termed the deputy speaker’s ruling “blatantly unconstitutional.”
