In a quick turn of events, President Arif Ali on Sunday dissolved the National Assembly following the advice of Prime Imran Khan. The premier in an address to the nation had made such advice after the National Assembly rejected the no-confidence motion against the premier, Aaj News reported.
According to Article 58, "The president shall dissolve the National Assembly if so advised by the prime minister; and the National Assembly shall, unless sooner dissolved, stand dissolved at the expiration of forty-eight hours after the prime minister has so advised."
The development was also shared on Twitter.
Earlier,ٰ State Information Minister Farrukh Habib in a tweet said that elections would be held in 90 days.
Reacting to the development, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged all institutions to "protect, uphold, defend & implement" the Constitution of Pakistan.
"The government has violated the constitution. did not allow voting on a no-confidence motion. The united opposition is not leaving parliament. Our lawyers are on their way to Supreme Court," he said in a tweet.
