The joint opposition on Friday submitted a letter to National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser for the issuance of production orders of MNA Ali Wazir, who is currently in police custody, during the National Assembly session to vote on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
National Democratic Movement chief Mohsin Dawar, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, Balochistan National Party chief Akhtar Mengal, JUI-F leader Asad Mehmood and others have signed the letter.
“As Speaker of the National Assembly, the impartiality of your office demands that you may issues production orders of every MNA regardless of Party affiliation so that no constituency of Pakistan remains unrepresented,” the letter stated, which Dawar also tweeted from his verified personal account.
South Waziristan MNA Ali Wazir has been in custody since December 2020 after being arrested for delivering seditious speeches in Karachi. He has a similar case registered against him in Miran Shah, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in November 2021 after spending more than 11 months in custody. However, his release was stalled after an anti-terrorism court requested additional verification before another arrest order was issued.
The PTM has held a sit-in before the Sindh Assembly demanding Wazir’s release on bail since February 14.
