Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Khurshid Shah claimed that Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi would become chief minister Punjab after the success of no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Speaking exclusively on the Aaj News program Spot Light shah said that the country would go through caretaker setup for the first two months and would have a national government for the next four months.
Shah's statement comes days after the PML-N and PPP agreed to nominate Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as Punjab chief minister in exchange for the PML-Q's support in the no-confidence motion.
Before the no-confidence vote had been submitted, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had named Pervaiz Elahi as his preferred candidate for the provincial chief ministership role.
In an interview on March 15, Pervaiz Elahi confirmed in an interview with a private news channel that the opposition had already offered him the coveted role.
Earlier Chaudhry Shujaat had also expressed his dissatisfaction over the federal government's performance.
Shah further revealed that 48 members, including allies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), would support the opposition's no-confidence motion, adding that opposition had also made deal with MQM-P and soon their party would announce their side.
He further said that after a few days people will get relief. "If PML-N runs the government then we will become its allies" Shah said adding that all parties should have think in the wider interest of the country.
He also warned that there may be a clash on March 27, adding that cases would be made against those who tried to make illegal arrests of people.
