Twitter overjoyed as Pakistan women win ICC World Cup match after 13 years

After a long gap of 13 years, Pakistan women’s cricket team secured a win at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup and social media users are singing their praises.

This was also the team's first win in the current edition of the event after several close defeats.

Pakistan broke its winless streak spanning 18 matches at the marquee event of women cricket by thrashing former champions West Indies by eight wickets in Hamilton, Ontario.

Pakistan's spinners - led by Nida Dar - helped restrict West Indies to 89/7 in a rain-shortened match after which the batters smoothly sealed an eight-wicket victory.

Captain and new-mum Bismah Maroof took to Twitter to appreciate her team and express gratitude for the win.

Cricket enthusiasts congratulated the team and wished them luck for the battles ahead.

Many users credited twirler Nida Dar for the “phenomenal win.”

“Great work by Nida Dar,” said one user.

The official ESPN Twitter dubbed Dar the “Pakistan playmaker.”

Dar, who won player of the match, lapped up the praise while expressing gratitude in a tweet.

“So happy to contribute to the team's win,” she said.

A video from the presenting ceremony is making the rounds on Twitter in which Dar says that her celebration style is inspired by Shahid Afridi and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
