Five minor siblings burn to death in fire at Karachi's slum

At least five minor siblings burnt to death after a fire broke out at a slum in Karachi's Aziz Bhatti Park late night on Thursday, reported Aaj News.

Two fire brigade vehicles managed to control the fire, which engulfed five huts in the urban slum.

The victims were two brothers and three sisters - 12-year-old Saima, 11-year-old Farhan, nine-year-old Kamran and eight-year-old Tayyaba, while the fifth sibling, a young girl, was shifted to the hospital in a critical situation where she succumbed to severe burns.

Rescue teams shifted the bodies to a hospital for medico-legal formalities. The fire broke out due to a short circuit in one of the huts, according to police.

Last year in November, at least four fires were reported in Karachi, including one that erupted in the slum under Lyari Expressway at Teen Hatti.

In the same month, massive fires broke out at Karachi’s Cooperative Market in Saddar and Queen Victoria Shopping Centre near Zainab Market, burning at least 30 shops as well as the materials inside them to ashes and causing losses of billions of rupees to the traders.

While authorities failed to determine the cause of another fire that broke out in Karachi's SITE Area in November 2021.
