Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday repeated accusations that the united opposition was trying to buy off lawmakers for the success of the no-trust vote seeking his ouster.
Addressing a public gathering in Swat, the premier also urged his supporters to descend on the capital on March 27 for PTI's rally at Islamabad D-Chowk - thus raising further the sceptre of pitched battles between supporters of the government and the opposition. The PDM rally is expected to enter the capital on March 25th ahead of the no-trust vote that is expected on March 28.
PM Imran, who is in Swat for a day-long trip ahead of the second phase of the local body polls in Khyber Pakhtunkwa, also fired yet another salvo against the Pakistan Democratic Movement leadership, including Asif Zardari, Fazlur Rehman and Shehbaz Sharif - this time referring to them as "mice" instead of "the three stooges".
He also took a jibe at PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, mocking the three time former premier over his oratorial skills. "When meeting former US President Barack Obama, he would read his responses from a piece of paper," he said, claiming that Nawaz was so nervous that he referred to the US president as Mrs Obama.
He went on to say that the opposition have come together as they want him out of power. "They know that if I stay in power for another year, they will all be behind bars," he said while reiterating his resolve to recover the wealth that corrupt leaders have stashed abroad.
"They want to come to power and dismantle the National Accountability Bureau so that their corruption goes unchecked," he added.
UN resolution
The premier lauded the UN decision to designate a day to combat Islamophobia, while mentioning the his own efforts and those of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Ambassador to the United Nation Munir Akram to ensure the resolution was passed.
"I have been receiving felicitation from the leaders across the Muslim world after the UN passed the resolution to mark March 15 as International Day to Combat Islamophobia," he added.
Pakistan presented the resolution on behalf of 57 countries of Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The premier said that after the 9/11 attacks in the United States, Western nations had built a narrative that pushed people to link Islam with terrorism.
"Terrorism has no religion, and despite Islam having no links with terrorism, a perception was created that terrorism is being spread across the world due to Islam," the prime minister said.
The premier, while referring to his speech in the United Nation, said that it was for the first time that a leader from Pakistan had raised their voice against Islamophobia in the UN.
Jewish lobby
The premier, while lashing out at JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, said that the PDM chief was part of every government in the last 30 years. "But he has never never raised the issue of Islamophobia and has never tried to convince any Western leader to speak against Islamophobia."
PM Imran further stated that Fazl would accuse him of being part of the Jewish lobby. "But the person who is accused of being part of the Jewish lobby has gotten a resolution against Islamophobia passed in the United Nations."
