Speaker Punjab Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said that the opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has the support of more lawmakers than the required number to make the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister a success.
Speaking in an interview to Hum News on Tuesday, he said that the opposition has more than 172 lawmakers’ support in the National Assembly.
"It is Khan sahab's duty to reverse the tilt. But I believe the time to send delegations has passed," he said adding that the government has never learnt how to build relationships and has ruined things with everyone.
Elahi said that he has already been offered Punjab’s chief ministership by the opposition alliance but the government has not made any offer and that the commitments made to his party had not been honoured.
The PML-Q leader also urged both the government and the opposition to call off their planned power shows, saying that such confrontations would not be in the interest of the country and would not benefit anyone.
BAP, MQM-P, and PML-Q, the government's allies, have been holding meetings with each another and with the opposition parties as both the opposition and the government are seeking their support to complete their numbers.
It is noteworthy that the three allies have 17 representatives in the National Assembly. If these parties join the Opposition, the PTI government's strength will fall to 162 from 179.
