Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday announced that a new branch of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust hospital in Karachi, which is under-construction, is scheduled to open by the end of next year.
"It will be bigger than SKMT Peshawar and Lahore and it will be equipped with the latest state of the art machines," the prime minister said in a tweet.
As soon as the announcement was made on social media, netizens responded with some criticising the premier for conflict of interest and emotional blackmailing.
Others called Shaukat Khanum the premier's favourite avenue to deflect criticism and self-adulation.
Many resorted to humour, with one user even asking the premier to appoint them at the hospital.
The massive fanbase that the premier enjoys across social media platforms was also quickly in action to take on naysayers and shower praise on the Imran for his many philanthrophic endeavours.
