Pakistan’s daily Covid cases tally stays below 1,000

Pakistan’s daily coronavirus cases tally stayed below 1,000 for the 11th consecutive day, with 758 infected patients reported over the last 24 hours.

“Statistics Mar 9 22: total tests in last 24 hours: 36,569; positive cases: 758; positivity %: 2.07%; deaths: 6; patients on critical care: 722,” the National Command and Operation Centre said in a tweet on Wednesday.

It is pertinent to mention that the country's daily statistics results also depend on the number of tests conducted in a single day as the cases have increased from 378 to 758 in a single day. Tuesday’s data showed that as many as 29,216 Covid tests were conducted as compared to the 36,569 done over the past 24 hours.

The NCOC forum, which serves as the nerve centre of the country’s unified efforts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, also shared the countrywide tally. According to the data, Sindh topped the list with maximum cases, 570,688, followed by Punjab (503,128), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (217,503), Islamabad (134,700), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (43,140), Balochistan (35,399), and Gilgit Baltistan (11,592).

According to medical experts, reduced following of public health measures have contributed to the Covid-19 surge in the country. They have several times stressed the need for practising protective health measures to stem the virus spread.

NCOC head Asad Umar on Sunday said that as many as 100 million people have been “fully vaccinated” against the coronavirus in Pakistan. In a tweet, he had termed the development a “major milestone” in the country’s effort to get rid of the virus and return to normalcy.
