Shah Rukh Khan accused of ‘spitting’ on Lata Mangeshkar’s remains at funeral

Several social media users have accused Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan of spitting on the remains of Lata Mangeshkar when a video of him performing ‘dua’ at the singer’s funeral went viral on social media.

Khan can be seen standing by Mangeshkar’s remains paying respect and reading dua during the final rites of the Indian icon.

Everything in the video seemed fine up until Khan took off his mask and blew air on the remains – that’s when people got mad.

“Being a public figure you are required to give public clarification immediately,” demanded one user.

The video made it to India’s national television and Khan was criticised for his 'actions.'

However, many were quick to call out the propaganda against the actor and criticised those who falsely accused him of spitting on the remains.

Social media users lambasted BJP’s leaders for spreading hate and poison in the society.

Some thought it reflected the Islamophobia present in India.

Shah Rukh Khan in the video is accompanied by his manager Pooja Dadlani, who's also seen paying respect to Mangeshkar. Many Indian people called it a “powerful” image - of a Muslim and Hindu praying side by side.

“This is called Equality,” wrote one user.

But some people are tired of this “push and pull.”

Mangeshkar passed away on Sunday in a Mumbai hospital after being admitted to its intensive care unit in January with Covid-19 symptoms. She was given a state funeral and India’s authorities had the national flag lowered in her memory.
