Pakistan's first transgender woman doctor offered house job at JPMC

Pakistan's first transgender woman Sarah Gill, who recently completed her MBBS, has been offered a house job at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) , reported Geo.

She met JPMC Executive Director Prof Dr Shahid Rasool on Tuesday and obtained a letter confirming her house job at the government hospital.

Earlier, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had urged the Sindh government to expeditiously arrange for Gill's house job, prompting Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to give directions to the JPMC administration to immediately issue a letter authorising Gill's house job.

Gill, on January 18, shared a video of herself on Facebook, announcing that she had completed her MBBS and she was now officially "Dr Sarah Gill Khan".

In a Twitter post, Gill thanked every one for the love and support she received, she especially congratulated the transgender community and said "history has been made".

The US Consulate Karachi also took to Twitter to express how proud they were of Gill for becoming the first transgender doctor in Pakistan, as she had also been a part of the US State Department's International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP).

In 2020, another transgender woman, Nisha Rao, obtained law degree from the Sindh Muslim Government Law College becoming the first certified lawyer from her community in the country.

She got admission into an MPhil programme in September last year.
