A sub-inspector of Quetta District police and a gunman were suspended for mistreating women at a public place, according to a notification issued by the Quetta SSP Operations late on Monday.
Sub-inspector Abdul Naveed and gunman Ghulam Raza were placed under suspension "on the charge of irresponsibility, laxity, misconduct, negligence and mistreating ladies in public place".
In the notification, the officer and official were directed to report to Shaheed Fayyaz Ahmed Sumbal Police Lines Quetta immediately.
The notification came after a video went viral on social media, showing policemen mishandling three women and forcefully pushing them into a police mobile van.
One woman, among the three who were arrested by the police, had reportedly left her house and had started living with her friends, Geo News reported on Tuesday.
The estranged woman's father submitted a complaint in the police station. Later, he informed the police as he saw her daughter with two women on a road in Quetta, according to the report.
After arresting the three women, the Quetta police was set to present them before a magistrate, it added.
Netizens condemned the incident as "shameful" with some of them demanding an inquiry into it, saying the women, if they were accused, could be arrested with the help of female constables.
