The cricket fraternity and the game’s fans have paid tributes to Indian cricketer Virat Kohli for ‘inspiring generations’ after the latter stepped down as captain of India’s Test team.
Kohli on Saturday resigned from India’s Test captaincy after seven years in the position. The talismanic batter, who announced the decision in a social media post, led the team for 68 matches and won 40 of them, making him India’s most successful Test captain.
He first led his country in the longest format of the game temporarily during the Australia tour in 2014 before he permanently took the reins from MS Dhoni at the end of the series.
In the post, Kohli lauded former head coach Ravi Shastri, MS Dhoni and players for their support and leading the team to the number one spot in Test rankings.
Reacting to the development, players from across the globe and cricket aficionados lauded Kohli for his contribution to test cricket and leading the team.
West Indian legend hailed Kohli congratulated Kohli for his ‘stunning run’ as Indian captain.
Former Australian spinner Shane Warne praised the aggressive player for his support to Test cricket.
Former fast bowler Mohammad Amir hailed Kohli as "inspiration for the upcoming generation."
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri said that "a few have achieved what Kohli have."
Leading run-scorer in cricket Sachin Tendulkar said the middle-order batter also gave his 100% in the game.
