Singer and social worker Shehzad Roy has been named the population and family planning ambassador, according to a notification by the Ministry of National Health Services.
The decision to give this honorary title to Roy was made during a meeting of federal task force of population which was headed by President Dr. Arif Alvi.
According to the population and housing census of 2017, the population of Pakistan has increased to 207,684,626. A report by United Nations states that Pakistan’s population could climb to an alarming 403 million by 2050.
Besides being a top singer, Roy is also known for his social work and philanthropist activities. He founded the Zindagi Trust which adopts schools and provides quality education.
Roy also speaks up against corporal punishment and child abuse. In 2005, he was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan for his social work.
