As the country welcomes in the new year, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday stressed the need for the government and the opposition to find common ground in order to initiate talks on the country’s prevailing issues.
The information minister's tweet comes as the government and opposition remain at loggerheads, with the National Assembly’s session prorogued for an indefinite period, leaving the fate of the Finance Supplementary Bill 2021 hanging in the balance
Apart from the finance bill, the government and opposition also have opposing views on electoral reforms that would build the ground for the next elections.
“At the beginning of the New Year 2022, I think we need to reduce the bitterness, the government and the opposition [need to] talk about elections, economy, political and judicial reforms,” he said in a tweet.
Terming Pakistan a great country, Fawad called for a “sense of responsibility” among the lawmakers.
He also wrote about the impact of fisticuffs in the parliament, saying that it diminishes the prestige of politicians.
