The opposition on Thursday protested against the government at the National Assembly session where the mini-budget and a bill granting autonomy to the State Bank of Pakistan was presented. The chaotic scenes from the session went viral on social media where users were beyond shocked.
Here’s what they had to say about the ruckus.
Minister of Energy Hammad Azhar also posted a video of the chaotic scenes from the NA.
Responding to Azhar’s tweet, one user said, “How will this country even proceed forward when the rulers behave like illiterates!”
The passing of the mini-budget and the SBP bill were essential to meet conditions of the International Monetary Fund. The opposition however, had vowed to block it “with full force,” as they believed it would mean “surrendering the country’s financial sovereignty.”
As the Speaker Asad Qaiser invited Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin to introduce the mini-budget, members of the opposition stormed in front of the speaker’s dias holding placards and chanting slogans, “You are an IMF agent. You are a traitor.”
