A local court in Peshawar sentenced a man to death after convicting him of committing blasphemy through uploading a video on the internet, Dawn reported. The court also fined the man Rs100,000.
Additional district and sessions judge Mohammad Tahir Aurangzeb pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against the 42-year-old who is a resident of Charsadda.
He was convicted him under section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code. The judge added that the evidence on record connected the accused with the commission of the offence.
The court ordered that the sentence should not be executed unless confirmed by the Peshawar High Court.
The judge also ordered that references should be prepared and sent to the PHC for confirmation of the death sentence. The judge also convicted the accused under section 298 PPC and sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment.
