The Karachi police on late Thursday took a woman into custody, believed to be the wife of an elderly man whose dismembered body was found at a house in the Saddar area.
According to the police, they reached the site after responding to a call from a citizen who had discovered chopped hands. The police traced the body parts to a house, where they found a woman with blood-stained clothes sleeping next to hacked body parts. The severed body was identified as Sheikh Muhammad Sohail.
More body parts were discovered from around the house, after which the woman was taken into custody.
The woman, identified as Rubab, was taken into custody, with the police stating that she was intoxicated.
In her initial statement given in an intoxicated state, as per the police, the woman stated that the deceased, believed to be around 70 years old, was her husband. She later changed her statement and claimed that the man was her brother-in-law.
She said the man was addicted to ice (methamphetamine). She also accused the man of torturing her and blamed him for getting her addicted to the same drug as well.
As per the woman, there was another altercation upon which the woman hit the man with a plier after which he lost consciousness. The man was murdered and chopped to death while unconscious, the woman reportedly told the police. The police said that different types of tools were recovered from the woman's possession.
Police added that the couple had contacted the police over a year ago as well following a domestic issue and the local police helped resolve it.
In another development, a man believed to be the victim’s son has also come forward. He said that the two were married and had been living together for the last six or seven years.
