Pakistan will accommodate 3,000 Indian Sikh pilgrims on the account of 552nd birth anniversary of Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak that will be celebrated from November 17 to 26.
According to a statement issued by the Pakistan High Commission, during their visit pilgrims can visit various gurdwaras including Gurdwara Janam Asthana in Nankana Sahib and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.
In his weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said that arrangements have been put in place for the annual celebration and pilgrims coming from India and around the world.
Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the Kartarpur Corridor in 2019, that allowed devotees to visit the final resting place of their religion’s founder. The initiative’s success has led to the UN secretary general labelling it the "corridor of hope".
Pakistan just observed the second anniversary of its inaugration.
Visas for Sikh pilgrims have been granted under the 1974 Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines, which allows 3,000 Sikh pilgrims from India to travel for Guru Nanak's birthday festivities.
