PMLN Vice President Maryam Nawaz tweeted on Wednesday that the nation is “aware of everything” and has the right to ask “why the ‘jihad’ had to be postponed so suddenly,” after the joint session of parliament scheduled for Thursday was put off.

The session was postponed shortly after Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the MNAs and lawmakers regarding the government’s upcoming bill on the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the next general election. He had asked them to take part in the legislation process as if it was ‘jihad.’

The premiere stressed the beneficiaries of the corrupt system would oppose the electoral reforms as they prefer status quo over electoral system.

The postponement of the session was announced by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry. He took to Twitter and said the electoral reform is a matter for the future of the country.

“We are working in good faith to reach a consensus on these issues. In this regard, Speaker Asad Qaiser has been asked to contact the opposition again so that a consensus on electoral reform The bill could be brought,” he said. The minister also said the government hopes that the opposition will seriously consider these reforms.

PMLN Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb quoted the minister’s tweet and said “And Imran Sahab runs away.”

In another tweet she said the government should admit the truth that they don’t have the numbers for the joint session. Forget their allies, their own lawmakers are not ready to vote for them," said Aurangzeb. "Did you remember to talk to the opposition in order to develop a consensus after calling the joint session?"
