Digital creators and comedians have created parody vidoes of overseas PTI supporters on social media, portraying the serious situation of high inflation with lighthearted humor.
On Monday, popular YouTuber and content creator Tamkenat posted a video on her Twitter profile titled, “Mehngai Aur Aik Overseas Pakistani Behen ki Aahozari!”
The nearly four-minute long video depicts an overseas Pakistani woman complaining about the hardships of living abroad. She compares life in Pakistan with that in the U.S and says, “living in Pakistan is like living in heaven, why are you all whining and protesting about inflation. Where’s inflation? There’s no inflation.”
Tamkenat, who has a channel on YouTube called "No Filters" received a great variation of responses on her video.
Some Twitter users laughed-out-loud. Here is journalist Meher Bokhari’s reaction to the video.
But others found the video offensive.
In the last few months, Pakistan has observed a rise in inflation for up to 9 per cent with per capita income decreasing to USD 1,260. The soaring prices of food and energy have led to protests by the opposition.
PM Imran Khan took to Twitter on Sunday and said that Pakistan has “fared much better” amid global inflation compare to most countries in the world. He also shared a YouTube video of a government spokesperson Muzzamil Aslam, who claims that Pakistan is on the right economic direction.
Another parody video on inflation that surfaced the internet was by comedian and rapper Ali Gul Pir. Using props and costumes, Pir imitates a PTI supporter as she criticizes Pakistanis for protesting against inflation.
The video garnered 62,000 views on Twitter and was lauded by users.
