The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has jacked up electricity price by Rs2.52 per unit owing to fuel adjustment charges of September, according to a notification issued by the body, reported Aaj News.
Consumers will have to pay Rs3 billion additional charges which will be collected in November's electricity bills.
However, the charges will not be applicable to consumers of K-Electric and other life line companies.
Last week, Nepra notified Rs1.68 per unit increase in base power tariff for all residential consumers and Rs1.39 per unit for all other consumer categories with effect from November 1. The increase in prices was announced to meet a requirement by the International Monetary Fund programme for the resumption of $6 billion Extended Fund Facility for the country.
Along with the notification, Nepra vice chairman wrote an additional note in which he said the National Power Construction Corporation has failed to follow Nepra's instructions related to power production on daily basis. He urged that a legal action should be taken as people had to bear the burden of incompetence which was unfair.
