The students of Pappu Sain, a dhol maestro who died of liver cancer, paid homage to their master on the beats of drums at his funeral at the shrine of sufi saint Baba Shah Jamal in Lahore on Monday.
Zulfiqar Ali, widely known as Pappu Sain, was admitted to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI) for almost a month before passing away in Lahore on Sunday.
Sain's funeral was held at the shrine and he was reported to be buried in Mai Sahiba’s shrine in his ancestral village, Chak Juhmra.
A recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, the Sufi drummer was known for his performances at national and international festivals.
Sain leaves behind his son, Qalander Baksh, who continues his father’s dhol-playing legacy at the shrine, reported Express tribune.
His passing was mourned across the country, with tributes also pouring in on social media.
