Batsman Asif Ali was trending on Pakistani Twitter for all the right reasons it seems. His performance in Tuesday's match against New Zealand helped secure his team's win in what had many nail biting moments.
Ali's inclusion in the T20 squad was initially criticized as was Haris Rauf's but both cricketers put those speculations to an end with their performance on Tuesday.
Ali hit three sixes to score a quick 27 runs off 12 deliveries.
And social media users responded with hilarious "apology" memes to the two players.
Following the match Ali said in a video that he believed his performance should put an end to the analysts who saw him as a four-over batsman.
Social media was full of praise for Ali's batting prowess which helped secure Pakistan the much needed victory in Sharjah.
Social media users also acknowledged that Babar Azam and Rizwan's earlier partnership failed in their game against New Zealand but Asif Ali stepped in to save the day.
Many also acknowledged Ali bouncing back from the trauma of losing his young daughter to cancer in 2019.
Ali was ultimately elevated to a superhero after his performance, and one hopes it's not a short-lived accolade.
