ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister's Office on Tuesday notified the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum as the new chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence.
According to a Geo News report, Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved Lt Gen Anjum's appointment with effect from November 20, 2021.
"The Prime Minister has seen and approved the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, as Director General Inter-Services Intelligence, with effect from 20th November, 2021, from the panel of officers at para 6 of the summary," reads the notification issued by the PMO.
The ISPR on Oct 6 had issued a statement saying current ISI chief, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, had been made the Peshawar corps commander, while Lt Gen Anjum was appointed in his place.
But the Prime Minister’s Office had not issued an official notification regarding that appointment, leading to rumours about tension in civil-military relations.
Lt Gen Nadeem has vast experience of command in conventional as well as sub-conventional threat environment.
Social media was set ablaze with reactions to the notification being issued.
Many hoped the notification will end a spate of speculations dominating headlines these past few weeks.
