After raising the petrol prices to a record high level in the country, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's core committee oon Wednesday decided to provide subsidy on petrol to low income people, according to an Aaj News report.
The committee will be presented a plan on how to provide subsidized petrol to motorcycles, rickshaws and public vehicles at their next meeting.
The government has also planned to initiate a targetted subsidy programme to low-income strata through Ehsaas, while Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Dr Sania Nishtar briefed the members on the new plan.
The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, while the attendees of the meeting included chief ministers, governors, federal ministers and the party's central and provincial leadership.
During the course of the meeting it was also decided the programme would be started through financial assistance of federal and provincial governments.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin attended the meeting through a video link.
