CAA issues notices to four airlines for cancelling scheduled domestic flights

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued notices to four airline operators including Pakistan International Airline (PIA) for cancelling scheduled domestic flights.

According to the CAA, a total of 1145 flights were to be operated on domestic routes, but 383 were cancelled, depicting a total percentage of 33.4%.

The PIA canceled 130 out of the 417 scheduled flights.

Serene Airline canceled 117 of the 250 scheduled flights.

Air Blue canceled 86 out of the 261 scheduled flights it was to operate, while Airsial cancelled 50 of its 217 flights.

According to officials, complaints were received from passengers over the cancellation of flights.

The CAA has now spelled out a new code of conduct for flight cancellation saying that cancellation of domestic flights, if any, will only be made consequent upon technical reasons or force majeure circumstances.

The CAA further said that it has decided to withhold all international chartered flight permission forthwith and now airlines would be required to submit an undertaking to operate domestic flights with regularity and punctuality before they are awarded any chartered flight permission.
