LAHORE: Opposition Leader in the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani was stopped late Tuesday by security authorities at Lahore airport from leaving abroad.
Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader Yousaf Raza Gilani has been stopped from leaving the country as his name is placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
Yousuf Raza Gilani's name was placed on the ECL in 2013 on the recommendation of NAB due to the appointment of Tauqeer Sadiq as Chairman OGRA.
An accountability court in Karachi, in 2020, indicted Gilani and 25 other government officials for misuse of authority and their alleged involvement in approving fraudulent trade subsidies. They pleaded not guilty.
In a statement, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticized the government move, calling it a violation of his fundamental rights.
He said that Gilani and other party leaders would not be cowed by “cooked-up” corruption cases -- a reference to a money laundering case involving Bilawal, and his father, and former President Asif Ali Zardari.
