Taliban arrest men who removed Pakistan's flag from aid truck

The Taliban have said they will take action against those who removed Pakistan's flag from a truck carrying aid and relief goods from Pakistan.

A video of men removing the flag from the truck after it arrived via Torkham border began doing the rounds on social media on Sunday. In it, people say "rip" the flag and one can hear cheers when the flag is removed. A man is also heard saying the flag should be burned.

The 17 trucks left Pakistan carrying food items for the new Taliban government, as part of a humanitarian gesture.

Pak-Afghan Cooperation Forum Chairman Habibullah Khan was quoted in Dawn as saying the goodwill gesture from Pakistan was made at a time when the war-stricken and impoverished people of Afghanistan direly needed such assistance.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the event had saddened the whole Islamic Emirate adding that they wanted good relations with Pakistan.

He said the men were arrested and their weapons have been seized.

Social media users took the opportunity to say it showed a division in ranks between leadership and ground realities.
