ECP expresses anger over allegations leveled by federal ministers

LAHORE: Members of the Election Commission of Pakistan has expressed anger over federal ministers for accusing the commission of taking bribes.

According to details, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on Tuesday chaired a meeting over allegations leveled by the federal ministers. The ECP members and higher officials attended the session.

The members stated that the allegations are baseless and unacceptable as the ECP is a constitutional department.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to serve notices to Fawad Chaudhry and Azam Swati over allegations leveled by the federal ministers.

The participants deliberated upon the discussions which took place during the meetings in Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs and President House.

The Election Commission also sought a record of the allegations of the ministers from PEMRA, further action will be taken after the record is released.

Earlier, during the session of Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. federal minister Azam Swati had leveled serious allegations against the ECP of taking bribes.

In a protest against the statement of Azam Swati, the ECP officials had walked out of the meeting.
