Actress Alizeh Shah faced severe backlash and became subject to mockery for her choice of outfit for Sunday’s Hum Style Awards. Donning a backless and strapless black formal gown, Shah became the talk of social media.
Twitter flooded with posts from various points of views, all critical in their remarks. Some commented from a religious and culture perspective while some even went as far to compare her choice to Imran Khan's comment made on June 20 in an interview on HBO where he stated “If a woman is wearing very few clothes it will have an impact on the man unless they are robots. It’s common sense.”
Some found her choice of clothing as "copying the cheapsters [of] bollywood."
Some said the prime minister was right when he blamed a woman’s attire as the reason for sexual harassment.
Some felt such celebrities should be boycotted.
While others offered style tips.
Others preached quoting verses of the Quran.
Several others made comparisons of her appearance, attaching a picture of her from a drama serial where she wears a hijab alongside the picture of her at Hum Style Awards.
However, some noted that criticism and the backlash was unreasonable and there were more important issues that needed discussion.
Others asked why people felt the need to constantly cover women’s bodies in the first place?
Someone also pointed to the senselessness of her dress trending when Hum’s choice of the host was more problematic.
