ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet on Thursday has rejected the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) suggestion to import sugar and cotton from India.
The decision to reject the proposal was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
The meeting of the Federal Cabinet considered the recommendation of the Economic Co-ordination Committee to import sugar and cotton from India in which the Economic Co-ordination Committee had recommended importing cheap sugar from India.
Sources said that the Cabinet has expressed reservations over the decision of the Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) and the members said that it would not be a positive development to import these items from India in the context of problems with India.
Sources said that Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to intensify efforts to import sugar and cotton from other countries at reasonable prices.
