ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Democratic Movement President and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman have remained stick to their plans of resignation from assemblies as well as staging a long march against the government.
Both the leaders held a telephonic conversation to ponder over the opposition’s alliance next strategy after a setback in the last PDM meeting in which clear differences appeared among the alliance’s ranks over the issue of resignations from the assemblies that led to the postponement of the proposed long march plan of the PDM in March.
According to the sources, Fazl told Nawaz that they were waiting for the final reply from the Pakistan People’s Party, who has said that it would reply regarding the resignations from the assemblies after discussing the matter in its Central Executive Committee meeting. Nawa assured Fazl that PML-N would resign from the assemblies and the long march would be staged at all costs.
Fazl said the PDM would hold a meeting after the PPP’s reply and then would decide on the future strategy of the opposition movement against the PTI-led government. He said the long march has not been postponed but delayed till the final reply from the PPP and has asked the workers to get prepared for the long march.
Meanwhile, addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Thursday, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chairman and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Moulana Fazlur Rehman has said that even one party can bring change with the support of masses.
He said that the movements do not stop whether everyone sticks together or someone breaks away from the alliance. The JUI-F chief said that the politics is not the name of cowardice but the name of courage, endurance and hope, adding that even one political party can bring change with the support of public.
“The journey towards the destination goes on,” he said and added the JUI-F will not disappoint the nation. He said: “If you are in politics, jail and power will also come your way, adding coming into government is not a revolution for me.”
Fazl said, “Our forefathers have not rendered sacrifices for staying behind but for moving forward.” Lambasting on the politicians, he said why were those in politics who cannot go to jail.
The PDM chairman said that the economy was destroyed in two and a half years by imposing an illegitimate government on our country. “How long will you keep blaming the previous governments, now there is no power in these words, admit your incompetence and leave power.”
"We are talking about democracy, the constitution and the supremacy of parliament and stand by the Constitution of Pakistan in order to fix this country,” he added. NNI
