In Dares Salaam, President of Tanzania John Pombe Magufuli died of heart failure after protracted illness. He was 61.

Tanzanian vice president Samia Suluhu Hassan announced this on TV and called for a 14-day mourning.

Magufuli was elected as president in 2015 and then in 2020.
