The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has convened an important meeting today to review the speech of Prime Minister Imran Khan, who had levelled serious allegations on the role of the electoral body during the Senate polls
In his address to the nation on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Imran Khan had accused the ECP of damaging democracy in Pakistan. Khan was of the view that ECP did not take a serious notice of the alleged involvement of Ali Haider Gilani, son of former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party senior leader Yusuf Raza Gilani, in horse trading before the Senate election of March 3, 2021.
On Friday, the ECP meeting presided over by the chief election commissioner would review the statement issued by the prime minister. The ECP is also expected to react to the prime minister’s statement without crossing its constitutional limits.
