It's no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented public health and economic crises globally. Some countries have fared better in the crisis and some have had found it extremely difficult to contain the flu bug. But thankfully, scientists have been successful in developing effective vaccines against the novel coronavirus in merely a few months.
In December 2020, the first dose of a fully tested vaccine, developed by the renowned pharmaceutical giant Pfizer/BioNTech, was administered in the United Kingdom. Since then, several coronavirus vaccines have been developed and authorized for use globally, and people are being immunized on mass scales in several countries. Understandably, first-world countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and China were first to develop and roll out vaccines on big scales.
To date, at least 114 countries and territories have administered almost 250 million doses of novel coronavirus vaccines.
According to the data provided by the Global Change Data Lab up to 1st March, the list of the top ten countries that have vaccinated the most number of people is given below. It must be noted that these figures show the number of people that have had their first dose of COVID vaccines.
1. United States --- 76.9 million 2. China --- 40.52 million *(Feb 9, 2021)* 3. European Union --- 33.82 million 4. United Kingdom --- 21.09 million *(Feb 28, 2021)* 5. India --- 14.3 million *(Feb 28, 2021)* 6. Turkey --- 8.77 million 7. Brazil --- 8.47 million 8. Israel --- 8.21 million 9. Germany --- 6.39 million10. United Arab Emirates --- 6.03 million
The US leads the world in terms of the vaccines administered. China, EU, and UK have also already vaccinated a huge number of their residents. As for Pakistan, so far Pakistan has been unable to vaccinate people on a mass scale. In fact, only a fraction of the population has been able to get their hands on the jabs. In the first phase, only frontline healthcare workers were registered in Pakistan for the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. But now people aged above 60 are also able to register themselves for the vaccination program.
