PM thanks overseas Pakistanis for record increase in remittances

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday revealed that the country received $2.27 billion of remittance from overseas Pakistan in January 2021 alone.

Taking to Twitter, the premier noted that the remittance received in January 2021 was up by over 19% of the total remittance received in January 2020.

The prime minister said that the total remittance received in the fiscal year 2020-2021 has been up 24% as compared to the previous fiscal year.

"Remittances from overseas Pakistanis were $2.27 bn in Jan, up 19% over Jan 2020 - 8th consecutive month of remittances above $2b. To date, in this fiscal year, they are up 24% compared to the last year. This is a record for our country and I thank our overseas Pakistanis."

The prime minister added that the country's industrial sector is also showing sustained growth. As per the statistics, large scale manufacturing saw a growth of 11.4% as compared to December 2019.

"Good news from the industrial sector also, showing sustained growth. Large scale manufacturing saw another double-digit growth month in December 2020 - 11.4% growth vs Dec 2019. Cumulative July to December growth is above 8% now."
