Court grants PML-N leader Khawaja Asif's transit remand

Islamabad Accountability Court on Wednesday granted one-day transit remand to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif in assets beyond income case.

Sources said that Khawaja Asif could not answer to his assets worth Rs 260 million. Before attaining a public position, the worth of Khawaja Asif’s assets stood at Rs5.1 million which was increased up to Rs221 million till 2008, according to NAB investigators.

During the hearing, Asif’s counsel opposed the NAB’s plea seeking his transit remand and demanded the accountability court to order the immediate release of his client. However, the court rejected the plea of Asif’s counsel.

On Tuesday, the NAB arrested PML-N leader Khawaja Asif in the assets beyond income case. He has been arrested from outside the house of PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal. PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has confirmed the arrest of Khawaja Asif.
