Ullema urge parties to postponed rallies to contain spread of COVI-19

Pakistani Ulema, on Thursday, unanimously agreed that all public rallies should be postponed considering the increasing number of cases in the country amid the second wave of COVID-19.

According to the details, the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi held a meeting with religious scholars at Aiwan-e-Sadar to discuss the role of the mosque in spreading awareness about COVID-19 and how Ulema can convince people to follow the government's coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs).

President Alvi held a briefing session along with scholars and thanked them for their cooperation during the first wave of coronavirus. He also requested their help to spread the government's message to contain the virus to the masses.

The president said that akin to the government, religious scholars have also expressed their concern over the rising number of cases in the country during the ongoing second wave of the infection.

"It has been decided that during the Jumma congregations and especially on 4 December, a day of prayer will be observed, help from Almighty will be asked," President Alvi said and requested the Ulema to urge people to be careful when they are going to markets and other crowded places and follow the SOPs as instructed by the government.

Alvi briefed the media that religious leaders have agreed to implement SOPs decided for the mosques and other places of worship during the first wave of coronavirus. The president said that Ulema has appealed to the politicians to postponed the rallies and comply with the SOPs.

Earlier today, President Alvi had summoned religious scholars to discuss the current situation of COVID-19. The meeting was attended by all provincial governors, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Noorul Haq Qadri, and Interior Miniter Ijaz Shah.
