Punjab records highest one-day COVID-19 tally since July 21

Recently, novel Coronavirus infections have started to rise steadily once again in several regions of Pakistan and Punjab is no exception.

Punjab has reported 340 new cases in the past 24 hours. It is the highest single-day tally of the province since July 21.

Overall, in Pakistan 1,100 plus cases have been recorded for the last two days consecutively. Public health experts have warned the public that the second wave of coronavirus has arrived in Pakistan and if no precautions are taken the cases are bound to surge.

To date, the total number of Covid cases that have been confirmed in the most populous province of Pakistan has reached 104,894. Out of these 2,372 people succumbed to the viral disease. At least 97,498 patients have fully recovered in the province.

Punjab government is pondering on the possibility of shutting down schools, bazaars, and shopping malls once again to curtail the spread of the virus. But no final decision has been taken regarding this. Smart lockdown is also being implemented in several Covid hotspots of the region.
