Former Afghan PM Gulbuddin Hekmatyar arrives in Islamabad for peace talks

The two-time prime minister of Afghanistan and leader of Hezb-e-Islami of Afghanistan Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has arrived in Islamabad today for a three-day visit focusing on Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace process.

Hekmatyar will meet Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and other Pakistani officials and exchange views on the Afghan peace process, shared ministry of information.

"Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Hezb-e-Islami of Afghanistan, along with a delegation will arrive here on Monday and would exchange views with the leadership of Pakistan on the Afghan peace process and strengthening of Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral relations."

The visit comes nearly three weeks after a recent visit by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah — Afghanistan’s top envoy for the ongoing peace negotiations between the Kabul government and the Taliban.
