According to the information shared by Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department of Punjab, in the past 24 hours, zero new COVID-19 deaths were reported in the province for the first time since May 26.
The official figure tells us that only 172 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in the past 24 hours in the most populous province of the country, taking the total number of confirmed infections in Punjab to 92,073. The current Covid-19 death toll in the province is 2,116. Also, 81,263 people have recovered from the disease. Punjab has conducted a total of 699,636 coronavirus tests to date.
Pakistan has been able to contain the coronavirus infection to a much extent as the number of new cases is decreasing consistently this month. As of today, over 274,000 cases and 5,800 deaths have occurred in the country. In the past 24 hours, 20 people died due to Covid-19 in the whole country, out of which no casualty occurred in Punjab.
Authorities fear a resurgence of the viral infection in Eid holidays. The government has been proactive in making sure we don't see an increase in new corona cases in the coming days. They have appealed to the public to remain in their homes and avoid unnecessary travel and mass gatherings.
Punjab government has implemented 'Smart Lockdown' starting from today 28th July till 5th August in an effort to curb the potential spread of the virus in the province.
