ISLAMABAD: Indian police have decided to arrest Hurriyat leaders, activists and youth to prevent anti-India protests during the week-long programmes announced by joint resistance leadership in connection with the martyrdom anniversary of charismatic young liberation leader, Burhan Wani.

A top police officer in a media interview in Srinagar said that they had decided to take `preventive detentions' across Jammu and Kashmir to avoid protests, KMS reported.

"We will go for preventive detention of leaders and organizers across Kashmir," Inspector General of Police, Muneer Ahmad Khan, told media.

Another senior police official said, district police chiefs have been asked to start a clampdown on Hurriyat leaders and
activists, especially youth. Police have started calling youth to police stations. "Those who do not report would be arrested," warned the police.

Media reports said that Burhan Wani's father, Muzaffar Ahmad Wani also got a call from Tral police station while he was on his duty. He was asked to report to police station. "The officer asked
Burhan's father if he intended to organize any programme on July 8, the martyrdom day of his son, Burhan Wani," a report said.

Muzaffar Ahmed Wani, according to the report, told the officer that since he was not a leader, he had no such plan, "but if youth or any pro-freedom organizations organize any programme, I can't stop them."
