These five 'bad' social media habits aren't bad at all

WEB DESK: People may point out others for using unnecessary social media. They may consider updating every detail of their lives as a wrong habit but researchers and experts have found out that social media activities that are tagged as 'bad' or time wasting, are not actually that bad.

Posting different pictures

If you feel like to share picture even though it is uninteresting to others but you find it interesting, post it on social media without fear of approval of it by others. It does not look like you are a social media addict. Also, PhD, director of the Media Psychology Research Center, says, feeling the need to post a picture of something as mundane as a warm mug of coffee must mean you’re too hooked on social media right? Not necessarily.

Quick check to social media at work

Working straight for hours is definitely tiring and exhausting and short breaks are required during the day to boost mind, mood and productivity. Therefore, taking breaks during work and checking on to social media accounts is not wrong but it could be relaxing even it is for few moments. Additionally, “if you say, ‘this is relaxation,’ you don’t have to feel guilty,” says Dr. Rutledge. “It’s like a coffee break.” The key is not to get too sucked in, she says.

Filling up empty moment

Most of time people have plenty of time to kill at home or outside. Sometimes a few free moments waiting for someone, somewhere etc. Hence, to kill the time, it is not bad to pull out your phone. Moreover, checking out social media for interesting/ informative posts and funny videos is way healthier than gossip filled magazine. Dr. Rutledge says,“having quiet time to be able to think and be thoughtful is important, absolutely,” but rarely do people just sit there and meditate or do any of those positive things people are supposed to be doing [in line].”

Taking selfies

Here is the most debated part of social media, people often mistaken person who takes plenty of selfies with self obsession. However, it is entirely wrong and probably a misconception. Moreover, due to convenient features of mobile phones, it has become quite easy to take picture and upload it on social media. It must not tagged with self obsession or with attention seeking. For other platforms, Rutledge says, "sometimes, sending a Snapchat selfie just shows your emotions better and quicker than typing, anything really out of balance where you’re relying too much on other people’s approval—that’s a problem, that’s not most of what happens on social media though.”

Deleting friends

Due to increase popularity of different social media platforms, it is obvious that people once in a while encounter situation where they have to face someone with opposite belief or concept and it could be about anything. Sometimes the argument started and continues for longer period than expected. And there won't be any option left than deleting the person. Hence, stop being guilty about it and learn that people may have different opinions about so many things and there is absolutely no need to argue in this regard. If you are not agree on something with someone, end the chapter right there.
