Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah termed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's statement in the House about his family's assets abroad in the aftermath of Panama Leaks an attack from within the Parliament. 

The Opposition Leader Wednesday expressed these views while speaking on the floor of the National Assembly.

He claimed that the Prime Minister breached the sanctity of the Parliament by giving a wrong statement on the issue of the Panama Papers on the floor of the National Assembly, "which is very shameful. He said that lawyer for the Prime Minster told the Supreme Court that Nawaz Sharif gave a 'political statement' in the House.

Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to stop the Opposition Leader when he started to speak on the Panamagate issue and said that it could not be discussed for it is a sub judice matter. Khurshid Shah said the Parliament is a more sacred place than Supreme Court.

He said the Parliament elected Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister. He said that politics is not about telling lies; rather it about rendering services and doing worship. He said that Parliament reflects aspirations and thinking of people.

He claimed that statement of the Prime Minister is based on lies and it breached the sanctity of the Parliament. He said the Parliament had come under attack in 2014 but the opposition parties stood unified in its defence. "We were openly criticised and labelled as a friendly opposition," he added.

The Opposition Leader said: "We underwent imprisonment and faced hardships for safeguarding the Parliament." Shah said the Prime Minister came to explain the money trail before the Parliament and it was later termed a 'political statement' but the PPP did not overreact.

The Opposition Leader said that it would not have been so harmful for the opposition if any minister or a treasury member had given such statement but he (PM) is the Leader of the House. "If there is no importance of this House then why we sacrificed for the supremacy of the Parliament.

A democratic ruler obeys the people and does not cheat them or tell them lies," he further said.

He said now people are of the view that the upcoming chief justice of the Supreme Court has a tilt towards the PML-N government. "We should not make the new chief justice controversial. Why has such thinking been created? We should condemn such thinking and will stop it with our actions," he said.

The Opposition Leader said, "The passed 18th Constitutional amendment to stop the way of dictator and not to tell lies in the Parliament."

Later, the Opposition Leader tried to move a privilege motion against the Prime Minster regarding the Panamagate issue but the Speaker stopped him, saying the issue is sub judice.
