HYDERABAD: Around 20 passengers including women and children received injuries as a result of derailment of two coaches and Service Loader Room (SLR) of 22-down Shalimar Express near Detha Railway Station, some 20 kilometres from here on Saturday noon.
The Station Superintendent Hyderabad Railway Shamsuddin Solangi said that when Karachi-bound down train Shalimar Express reached near Detha Railway Station, its two coaches and SLR derailed at around 11.50 a.m.
Besides the SLR, the Coach Nos. 52-82-2 and 120-78-2 have been derailed, he informed and added that due to slow speed because of being near Hyderabad Railway Station, the train narrowly escaped from a major disaster.
As a result of the derailment, around 20 passengers received injuries, who were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital City Branch by rescue workers.
Out of 20 passengers, 16 have been admitted to different wards of the hospital. They were identified as Abdul Ghafoor, son of Wazir Ali, Shabana, wife of Safdar, Shahbaz. son of Sharif, Abdul Hameed, son of Babuddin, Fatima, daughter of Safdar, Iqbal Bibi, wife of Abdul Hameed, Budha Khan, son of Ali Muhammad, Razzaq, son of Noor Muhammad, Irshad, son of Aslam, Nusrat, son of Rana Izhar, Ruqaiyya, wife of Shamshad Ali, Noshiba, wife Aleel John, Rashid, son of Ishaq, Samina Tariq, Tanveer, son of Munir and Khalid Mian, son of Illahi Bux.
The Railway Engineering Wing under the supervision of Station Superintendent separated the affected coaches and SLR from the train and later the train received green signal for proceeding to its destination Karachi.
The Station Superintendent Shamsuddin Solangi informed that the workers of Engineering Wing have been engaged to lift the coaches from the spot through cranes and repair the damaged track.
A team of technical experts from Hyderabad and Karachi also reached the spot to ascertain the causes of derailment, he added.
It may be mentioned here that on February 7, 2015, the Karachi- bound Ghulam Fareed Express had also escaped a disaster as a result of  derailment of one of its nine coaches.
