Renowned Indian film critic Taran Ardarsh tweeted: "Here's *Fri to Tue* total of #Dhoom3: India ? 149.46 cr + Overseas ? 84.11 cr [$ 13.11 mn +]. Worldwide total: ? 233.57 cr."
The Yash Raj Fims’ action-adventure has scored the biggest opening ever for an Indian film both in India and overseas, smashing the records set by Shahrukh Khan's ‘Chennai Express’ and Hrithik Roshan's ‘Krrish 3’.
The third installment in the successful Dhoom franchise has also shattered box office records in Pakistan in the first week of its release. In the country’s largest city Karachi, ‘Dhoom 3’ collected around Rs 2 crores from 56 screens on its opening day, smashing the record of the Pakistani highest grossing film ‘Waar’.
"Waar grossed Rs 11.4 million on its opening day but Dhoom 3 has surpassed that by a large margin," Pakistan leading exhibitor and distributor, Nadeem Mandviwalla said in a statement.
"There is no doubt that Dhoom 3 has been a massive hit and the reason for this is clearly Aamir Khan and the pre-release publicity for the film."
The film, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, features Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra in the leads.
