Speaking to a private news channel, he further said today’s solstice, the earth will continue its orbit around the sun on its tilted axis, so that by sep 22, the sun will be directly over the equator for the autumnal equinox.
"From here on out, the days will gradually become shorter. Today, the sun sets at 7:35 p.m. The sunrise was at 4:48 a.m., making today almost a 15-hour day", he added.
As the Earth travels around the Sun in its orbit, the north to south position of the Sun changes over the course of the year due to the changing orientation of the Earth's tilted rotation axes. The dates of maximum tilt of the Earth's equator correspond to the Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice.
"It is going to be the longest and could be the hottest day of the year in some cities as sunrise will take place at 4:42 am PKT while sunset will occur at 7:25 pm on the June 21, thus sunlight would shine for more than 13 hours", he said.
He added that the temperatures in Islamabad could reach 44?C while 46?C to 47?C is expected in Lahore.
