6 die as Indonesian plane crashes in Jakarta

"Six of the seven crew were killed and one was critically injured. That's all we know so far," stated an Indonesian air force spokesman.

The plane was reported to be a Fokker-27 and was on a test flight. The plane crashed into a housing complex within the Halim Perdanakusuma military airport compound.

With reference to the injured crew member, the air force spokesman stated that he had been taken to hospital and added that the military would look into the cause of Thursday's crash.

Indonesia has seen several incidences of aircraft crashes within recent years. In early May, a Russian Sukhoi jet, on a promotional demonstration flight, crashed into a dormant volcano in Java, killing all 45 on board. (AFP)
